Progress not perfection
Aug 10, 2020Many non-native English speakers hold on to a belief that their English is not good enough when they have to present in English.
This can hold people back from sharing their talent and knowledge in so many areas. Whether it's in sales, in project meetings, in team meetings, appraisals, in interviews and of course in formal presentations.
In my travels across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia, I hear this comment so many times, and it's NOT true in the majority of cases.
Of course this doesn't mean we should not seek to improve our English (and I include myself here. Even as a native English speaker I can always improve my words and vocabulary). But if we have this belief that our English skills aren't good enough, we can avoid speaking up.
My tip is to focus on progress not perfection, that way we're better able to showcase our knowledge and add value to the the organisation and ourselves.
