Darren
Founder of the
Presentation Skills Academy
I started my professional career in JPMorgan where I worked for 18 years before setting up my own business.
Initially working in the operations area in London, Tokyo and New York my career changed when I got the opportunity to deliver my very first presentation.
Having never delivered a presentation before, I had to present some recommendations to around 70 people including some senior managers.
Two days after this presentation, my whole career changed.
I received a phone call from one of the senior managers asking me to come and see him.
Initially I was worried that something had gone wrong, but the conversation was very different.
The senior manager, Mike, said he liked some of the recommendations I had mentioned, and we would explore ways to implement them. He went on to say, I loved HOW you delivered the presentation and would I be interested in a new role as manager of a newly formed training department.
The rest, as they say, is history….

I have run these programmes in the corporate world with tremendous success.
Some delegates have found the confidence to present in their team meetings whilst others have gone on to present in front of 1000’s at big marketing events and product launches.
You can gain the same benefit.
The great news is you don’t need to be a confident person to start presenting with confidence.
I remember my first ever train the trainer training in 1998 and whilst I was full of confidence, I soon realised I lacked the skill.
I had a pen in my hand and spent the whole presentation clicking it.
Fortunately, the training session was videoed, and I was able to watch it back.
What it taught me was invaluable as I was able to learn how to present information and use these techniques in my professional role.
Over the years I have delivered 1000’s of courses and seen the impact it has made, especially to non native English speakers
Covid impact on Virtual Presentations
During the outbreak of Covid, the use of virtual platforms became vital for businesses to succeed.
I’m sure you have sat on so many virtual calls since 2020. Whilst platforms like Zoom and TEAMS are amazing, it presented another problem. More places for people to hide and sit with their cameras off.
Between March of 2020 and December 2022, I ran over 1,500 training sessions to 50,000 delegates using virtual platforms.
Whilst there are some techniques that can be used in both face to face and virtual presentations, there are also some differences that we need to be aware of.
I have developed a proven method to help non native English speakers build their confidence and skills and I am happy to be able to share this with you.
